Fashion For A Social Cause
The theme for Singapore Fashion Runway 2017 is Fashion for a Social Cause. The runway show will feature works by 13 local and aspiring designers (including Artz de Scrap), and modeled by 30 special needs patients and survivors who will be the beneficiaries for the funds raised for the event. There will also be a showcase of creative items sewn by Singapore’s elderly, the less privileged and special needs families.
Fashion for a Social Cause aims to make the fashion industry a community for all to be a part of, to impact lives and bring joy, happiness and confidence to the ill and aged, who are fighting life’s challenges.
For the first time since 2015, Singapore Fashion Runway has decided to work with GIVE.asia to raise funds. Thank you GIVE.asia for helping Singapore Fashion Runway’s “Fashion for a Social Cause” in the fundraising campaign. The fundraising campaign is so as to continue to impact lives of the special needs patients and survivors and fulfil their dream / journey through Fashion for a Social Cause.

It has been quite a week for us, where we rushed out several handmade jewelry designed specially for Singapore Fashion Runway. After the rush to create the Monochrome Black and White accessories, we focused on the Summer Paradise theme given by Singapore Fashion Runway and created more pieces to fit the theme. Yummy colours always inspire the design of Artz de Scrap‘s accessories. Here’s the mood board we had created earlier on to go with the Summer Paradise theme. Excited to see the collection now? 🙂
With the Summer Paradise theme in mind, the theme makes me think of the Sun, Pretty Blue Clouds, Palm Trees, Texture of the Sand, the Waves rolling up the beach and the Clear Blue / Green Sea. With the hot and humid weather in Singapore, those who love being in the Sun would want to feel the heat and yet stay cool. Hence, Ice Cream and Umbrellas come to mind too. All of these serve as inspiration for my designs for Singapore Fashion Runway. The designs will also include a juxtaposition of colours and a mix of Soft and Hard Elements through the use of materials.
Here’s a sneak peek of some of the handmade jewelry we will be featuring. Artz de Scrap had designed 2 collections for Singapore Fashion Runway, which consist of a Colourful Collection named Colour Burst and a Black and White Collection named Marbled Chic.
I am loving how the accessory pieces turned out and can’t wait to show you the full range for the runway. Don’t the Colourful pieces look yummy like candies? The black and white bangles look like marble and are classy, love them so much! They are definitely easy to match with your outfits, for a funky look.
All pieces for the runway are ready for the photoshoot next week and runway show in August. These Accessories will be put up on Artz de Scrap‘s online stores, Etsy and Shopee, our Facebook page and also on Singapore Fashion Runway’s webpage for sale in August. So stay tuned for updates on our Instagram and Facebook pages. In the meantime, do check out the other range of products we offer on our Website and Amazon store! 🙂
I had a really busy week rushing out new handmade accessory pieces for Artz de Scrap in preparation for the filming with Singapore Fashion Runway yesterday. We had very short notice, just a few days, where we got to know that for the filming, the accessories are to go with a monochrome black and white theme.
It started off with waiting for the production team to finish filming with another group before it was our turn. Then we moved to the set, got to see part of how they set up the backdrop, the various props. Here’s a backdrop set-up which I like, see the interesting shadows created!
We too, Artz de Scrap, set up our table to display our handmade jewelry to act us a backdrop for the scene of the filming. Here was the set-up we did! I love the black and white theme, even our lightbox nameplate goes well with the display of handmade jewelry. 🙂 Sneak peek on all the accessories we created for the filming. I was so worried we will not have sufficient accessories to display on the table, I didn’t want the table to be empty!
The filming starts, we went through scenes several times for the filming crew to capture various angles of the same scene. It was an experience for us and we had fun though it was a tiring 12 hours. Throughout the day, I am so glad to meet so many wonderful people and getting to know these people through Singapore Fashion Runway. It feels great and honoured to see some of them wearing the accessories I managed to rush out over the past few days, and having them appreciate my works. Well worth the effort and makes my day! I would like to thank these wonderful people (fellow designers, models, make-up artists, filming crew, Singapore Fashion Runway). Here are just some of them which I managed to get a shot with. 🙂
Can’t wait to see the outcome of the filming in all cinemas starting 20 July 2017! Dreams do come true in a fashionable way. We are so glad that Artz de Scrap can be a part to help our community (Fashion with a Social Cause) create a lifetime memory and experience!
Handmade jewelry is growing in popularity for a number of reasons. When it comes to jewelry, people are always looking for something unique. Handcrafted jewelry is beautiful, affordable and most importantly offers consumers a unique jewelry option. It is a jewelry that has been crafted and made by hand rather than using machines.
Handmade necklaces, bracelets, rings, and earrings are outstanding and interesting. In many cases, handmade fashion jewelry is environmentally friendly. Let’s have a look at some of the reasons why handcrafted jewelry is so popular and what are its benefits:
Handmade jewelry is a high-quality product as each piece of jewelry is handcrafted individually by skilled artisans. The personal attention and love that makers put into their work can be seen in the pieces that they create. There is no use of machines. Hence, handcrafted jewelry have a unique quality that machine made jewelry lacks.
Artisans take their time to create each piece of jewelry that is unique in design and pattern. This makes fashion jewelry such as handmade necklaces, earrings, bracelets, and rings very high in artistic value. A machine can produce many pieces per hour while an artisan can only create a smaller number of pieces in the same amount of time. Handcrafted jewelry is of high quality than machine-made pieces. Smaller scale production is almost always higher quality because the maker is able to control the process from start to finish. Most jewelers are proud of their work and craftsmanship to ensure each piece is perfect.
Handmade jewelry is meaningful because each artisan makes small quantities. Hence, you are unlikely to run into someone wearing the same piece or give a piece of jewelry that someone already has. As handmade jewelry are a product of the craftsman’s skill, each piece of handcrafted jewelry is truly exclusive. Artisans are free to create and not restricted by machine designs or popular trends. This makes it possible for them to push their creativity and come up with handmade jewelry pieces that stand out.
Jewelry Makers have often dedicated to sustainability and ethically sourced materials. Purchasing handmade products is almost always more environmentally friendly than purchasing mass-produced items.
Artisans produce handmade jewelry in smaller quantities than large companies. It is less likely to use up major resources, as resources are used in smaller amounts. There is less transportation, storage and packaging involved. Many jewelry artisans focus on using recycled and sustainable materials in their jewelry designs.
A handcrafted item takes a longer time to create and the buyer gets something that is worth the effort and at a much affordable price. Handmade jewelry is something that you will cherish for years to come. Artisans make them with much love, dedication, and passion.
Reducing your carbon footprint and supporting local artisans is good for the environment and for everyone. Artisans and makers dedicate their love and energy into each piece of work. The maker has a very close relationship with each piece or design they create. The design process determines the value of each piece of handmade jewelry as you are buying a one-of-a-kind product. There is also great value in supporting local from a sustainability point of view.
Support an artisan by purchasing handmade jewelry, who generally has less resources than large manufacturers. You get to own a gorgeous piece of handmade jewelry and also encourage artists to live their dreams. Handmade necklaces, rings, bracelets, and earrings give artisans a chance to hone their craft and express their creativity.
When considering to purchase a handmade piece of jewelry, remember that even though the piece may be an investment, you are supporting something greater. You should feel good about your purchase knowing that you have a special piece of the artist in your jewelry collection. The handmade piece may be part of an edition, however, no artisan creates two pieces that are exactly identical. You are the only person with that special piece of jewelry which says a great deal.
Now that you know why Handmade Jewelry is gaining popularity, do check out the range of handmade jewelry we had specially picked out for you on our webpage. Whether you are looking for something to accent your outfit or one of a kind gifts for the loved ones, try handmade jewelry and make the memory timeless.
